the flying scotsman was fond of motorcycles when he was earthbound. jimmy keith always had two or three in pieces besides the indian that was ready all the time. he let scotty take it out whenever he wanted, and scotty would take him up to Nagadoches when he had to go.

Summer Ice



Aunt Leda was waiting for the ice. Nobody but a greedy child would drink it hot. The ones way down at the bottom, she put them under the ice when it came, where those long-arm braceros couldn't even reach. Well they were the coldest along about 3 o'clock and thats when she'd take a few over to the pie and cake table.

Root Beer Cake



The drum and bugle corps was quickening every step all the way from the rail head to the fairgrounds. Mama was gonna work the cake and pie table so Charlie could go to the rodeo with Zeke and Penny and Clarissa and Juney could run around bringin the men their beans and barbecue, but only until the Porter family shjowed up. Four boys each cuter than the next till you got to Conroy who was the sourest stringbean to kick up dust.

cabbage, carrots, celery, onions. potatoes on the other side. sacks of flour. bacon that comes in a barrell. socks and gloves. candy sticks. turnips, rootabagas, pumpkins once a year.
